There are a number of people who believe their stitching enjoyment is over once the thermometer starts to rise into pool-friendly numbers.  My advice?  Take your project to the pool!  Of course, summer stitching success (oh my, I do love my alliteration!) can depend on your project’s fiber and size.

Sample projects for warmer weather?

Some people might think using the summer months to get a jump on winter gifts, etc. is the way to go.  And that is perfectly fine if you are spending all of your time in front of the air conditioner!  But, I enjoy taking advantage of Summer’s slower pace to watch my granddaughter swim at the pool or sitting in my back yard admiring my feeble attempts at gardening.

I like to look for projects that can be put to use during the warmer season.  And don’t we know that Ravelry is a stitcher’s paradise when it comes to finding new projects! I find that being able to put my finished project to use right away incentivizes me and increases the pleasure of working on it.

So, fiber content?  Well, needless to say I’m going to stay away from heavy wools and bulky alpacas!  Because we are located in Florida, you’ll find that our shop is especially filled with plant-based blends perfect for sunny days.  One of my latest favorites is Cumulus from Juniper Moon Farms.  It’s worsted-weight cotton which makes for quick projects but its constructions makes it incredibly light so it’s even great for a garment.  I just finished the Seven Sisters Top in the Kokomo Blue colorway and have already worn it comfortably several times over the past few weeks.  And, Cirrus from Juniper Moon Farms is a DK version of Cumulus which is perfect for so many of my favorite top patterns.  Mom is making the Rigmor Tee by PetiteKnit and is currently on the second sleeve so we’ll see that in the shop soon-ish.  Hope she made it to fit me!

Other great projects are market bags.  During the month of June, Sandy is hosting a stitch-a-long for the crocheted Sun and Moon Tote using Modern Cotton by Berroco Yarns.  So far we’ve seen some beautiful colors selected and I can’t wait to see them crocheting along Friday mornings.  Sandy is such a great help for when there any new stitches or techniques.  We are lucky to have her!

And the same yarn can be used to participate in the knitted Susan Bag we’ll be hosting on Thursday mornings.  I’m having so much fun with the Bobbles!

No matter the project, we hope you continue to have stitching fun inside or out this Summer.  And be sure to stop by the shop and stitch with us!  We have social stitching Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings starting at 10:00 AM in the She Sells Yarn parlor.  Look forward to seeing you!

I’m Helen

Helen standing She Sells Yarn shop
Welcome!

I am the proud owner of a local yarn shop located in Ormond Beach, Florida.

I’m excited to take this opportunity to share happenings around our shop. There is always an opportunity to learn something new and I am in the unique position of meeting up with so many talented people in the fiber world to learn from.

Every week we have someone pop through our doors with a yelp of “Help!” even before we can offer a friendly hello! I thought it would be fun to offer some friendly advice based on the many questions we get from stitchers just like you. I can’t take credit for all of the advice but I know my friends won’t mind my sharing their tips and techniques. After all, that’s why we are here…to make sure we all have project success!
